Nicki is a Board Certified Specialist in Family Law and one of only two practicing attorneys in Wayne County to hold this distinction. Board certification is awarded by the North Carolina State Bar to attorneys who demonstrate substantial experience, advanced knowledge, and high professional standards in their field—fewer than 3% of attorneys in North Carolina earn this designation. Nicki represents clients in divorce, custody, equitable distribution, and other family law matters
Nicki is also certified as a Family Financial Mediator by the North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission and works with families to reach practical and amicable financial resolutions whenever possible.
A Wayne County native, Nicki grew up on her family’s farm in the Grantham area. She graduated summa cum laude from the University of Mount Olive and earned both her Master of Business Administration and Juris Doctor from Campbell University.
After graduating from law school in 2012, Nicki joined Woodruff & Fortner in Smithfield, where she focused her practice exclusively on family law and later became a partner. In 2025, she founded Sanderson Family Law and now serves clients in Wayne County and surrounding communities.
Outside of her law practice, Nicki enjoys spending time with her husband, Chris, and their three children. She is active in her community as a co-leader of the Swingepig 4-H Club, serves on the Wayne County Junior Livestock Show & Sale Committee, and serves on the Wayne County 4-H Advisory Committee. Nicki is devoted to her church where she serves as Assistant Director of the Women’s Ministries, teaches toddler church, assists with the music ministry, and is a past church board member. She enjoys working out, reading, and gardening.
